In case you haven’t noticed, the World Wide Web has been evolving. We use it every day, but don’t necessarily understand how and what the changes mean to the average user. Welcome to Web 2.0. Here’s a quick look at what you really need to know: Like the software programs we use, a version number identifies the latest adaptation of web technology. Web 2.0 is a way to identify the ever-morphing landscape of the Internet. The YouTube entry, The Machine is Us/ing Us created by Dr. Michael Wesch, Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology, Kansas State University, gives us a glimpse into many of these changes.

So what is it about the Web as a platform that makes it change? The idea of dynamic content is a major factor in these advances. Experts point to Wikipedia as an example of content for the people, by the people. Individual experts can upload information that can be monitored and changed by anyone.

It’s this concept of dynamic content that has directly impacted how websites are made and what is expected of them. Visitors want interactivity — they want to be engaged. Being able to change your own site content relies on affordable content management systems that are also easy to use. Which is a great segue for us. Because at Moore Marketing, we’re all about using sound strategies and smart solutions to help our clients create demand with interactivity and dynamic content that keeps their sites fresh and top of mind.

This is a first in a series of articles to discuss the impact of Web 2.0 and how it shapes websites and drives sales. Come back next time to find out about social networking.
